Galway is one of the largest and most varied counties of Ireland. I only visited Galway town and the west, known as Connemara.
The city is busy and lively in a very pleasant way. But with a population of 50.000 it is very large of course...
The flat landscape immediately west of the city didn't appeal to me, so I headed for the wild west. The coast is made of endless inlets and islets. The weather gave a gorgeous light show.
From everywhere the inland mountains, known as the Horse Shoe, can be seen. But as soon as I came nearer, the rain began. Near the coast it was dry - warm sometimes. Even the cows tried to bronze a bit.
Off topic now: what I simply can't understand, is this. Many tourists only visit the main roads. But the small roads meander through hedges of fuchsia and the most wonderful parts of the country. Why not simply enjoy that? But well, of course there is more peace left for me!
The best would be to go by bike - I'll arrange that next time.
