Stirling 15 |
Stirling is a very nice town, with a beautiful old town. The ancient royal castle, on top of a hill, is the main point of focus. Here the Scottish kings lived and worked, until in the second part of the 16th century they moved to Edinburgh.
The city has won glory in recent years, due to the film Braveheart. An important battle was fought here, at Stirling bridge, and won by William Wallace in the wars of independence against the English.
In Victorian times a most ugly Wallace monument has been erected on the north side of the city. Scottish romanticism seems to be older than Mel Gibson...
